Ebony, artisanal finishing and a different way of thinking about knitting needles

Needles built around an extraordinary material: carefully finished ebony wood that combines warmth, control and exceptionally smooth glide.

Lantern Moon interchangeable circular needles | Budetex

Lantern Moon is a premium knitting and crochet tool brand whose identity is deeply connected to craftsmanship and natural materials.

Unlike brands that develop numerous collections in different materials, Lantern Moon concentrates much of its identity around one wood: ebony.

Its needles and crochet hooks receive an extremely polished finish that the brand calls Liquid Silk Finish, pensado para conseguir una superficie suave manteniendo la sensación cálida característica de la madera.

Its interchangeable systems also feature several characteristic elements:

  • brass connectors with a 24K gold finish
  • stainless-steel cables coated in clear nylon
  • full compatibility with KnitPro cables and accessories.

The result is a relatively compact collection compared with other brands, but with an exceptionally clear identity.

What makes Lantern Moon different?

A Lantern Moon needle does not try to stand out through the sheer number of materials or technologies it offers.

Its proposition is much more focused: take an exceptional wood and build a carefully finished tool around it.

Four elements especially define the Lantern Moon experience:

EBONY: a naturally dense, dark, highly durable wood with a warm feel.

LIQUID SILK FINISH: an extremely fine polish developed to let yarn glide smoothly over the wood.

CAREFULLY ENGINEERED CONNECTION: the interchangeable tips use threaded brass connectors with a 24K gold finish, designed to create a smooth transition between tip and cable.

TECHNICAL CABLES: memory-free stainless-steel cables coated in nylon, also available in swivel versions.

The experience is still personal. An ebony needle is not necessarily better than a metal one: it simply creates a different balance between control, glide, temperature and feel.

Our Lantern Moon selection for Argentina

At Budetex, we aim to build a broad selection within the families we work with and maintain continuity over time, with restocking for both retail and wholesale.

Our selection of Lantern Moon in Argentina is focused mainly on its ebony interchangeable circular-needle system: tips in different lengths, cables and sets.

We also carry especially representative products from other categories, such as the crochet set Radiance.

Lantern Moon has a broader international catalog than our regular selection. We regularly evaluate new additions according to availability and demand.

Is there a Lantern Moon product we do not currently carry that you would like to find in Argentina? Contact us. We take these requests into account when planning future imports.

For wholesale sales to specialty retailers, we can also evaluate products from the Lantern Moon catalog that are not part of our regular selection.

Ebony: the heart of Lantern Moon

Lantern Moon’s main needles are made from ebony wood.

It is a dense, naturally dark wood that, once carefully polished, creates a surface very different from that of a metal needle.

Lantern Moon applies a finish to its needles that it calls Liquid Silk Finish.

The goal is to achieve especially smooth glide without losing two qualities inherent to wood:

  • its warmth in contact with the hand
  • a small degree of natural control over the yarn

That combination of control and glide is probably one of Lantern Moon’s most interesting qualities.

A connection that is part of the design

In an interchangeable needle, the transition between tip and cable matters enormously.

Lantern Moon uses threaded brass connectors with a 24K gold finish.

Beyond the visual detail, the connector’s function is to create a smooth transition so stitches can move between the wood and cable with as little interference as possible.

It is one of those small details that may seem secondary at first, but begin to matter after hundreds or thousands of stitches.

Lantern Moon tips: 10 cm or 13 cm

Lantern Moon interchangeable needles are offered mainly in two tip lengths: 4 inches / 10 cm y 5 inches / 13 cm.

Lantern Moon interchangeable circular needle | Budetex

10 CM / 4"

Shorter tips and more compact configurations.

By reducing the length of each tip, we can build circular needles with a shorter overall length.

We would especially consider them for hats, necklines, sleeves, children’s garments and anyone who simply prefers a shorter tip.

They can also be used perfectly well for larger projects by combining them with longer cables.

Lantern Moon interchangeable circular needle | Budetex

13 CM / 5"

More support in the hand.

This is the more traditional configuration for general knitting and medium-to-large projects.

We would look at them first for sweaters, cardigans, shawls, blankets and flat knitting worked on circular needles.

For many people, the additional support area makes a 13 cm tip especially comfortable during long projects.

Simple rule: if you want greater versatility for shorter circulars, look first at 10 cm. If you prioritize support in the hand and mainly work garments, look first at 13 cm.

Lantern Moon cables

Lantern Moon memory-free cable | Budetex

The cable is a central part of any interchangeable system.

Lantern Moon cables are built around a nylon-coated stainless-steel core.

The brand designs them to uncoil easily and remain relaxed during knitting.

Swivel cables

With Swivel, the cable can rotate relative to the tip.

This movement helps prevent twist generated during knitting from constantly transferring into the cable.

Lantern Moon offers Swivel cables in different lengths and uses the same characteristic threaded brass connector with a 24K finish.

For us, this combination works particularly well:

ebony for feel and control + a swivel cable for freedom of movement.

Lantern Moon sets

A set starts to make sense once we know we like the feel of ebony and want to build much of our needle collection around the same system.

Lantern Moon organizes its interchangeable sets mainly around three variables:

  • tip length: 10 or 13 cm
  • number of sizes included
  • cable lengths

In the international catalog, 13 cm sets include Heirloom, Glory, Legacy y Charm, while 10 cm sets include Ancestry, Bliss, Grace y Heritage.

There is no need to memorize the names. What matters first is deciding which tip length we prefer and how many sizes we actually need.

10 CM / 4" SETS

Short tips for expanding the possible configurations.

Sets such as Grace and Bliss bring the Lantern Moon experience to 10 cm needles, from compact 5-pair configurations to broader 7-pair options.

They are especially interesting if, in addition to garments, you work hats, sleeves, necklines or other relatively small circumferences.

13 CM / 5" SETS

More support in the hand.

This is the more traditional configuration for general knitting and medium-to-large projects.

Sets such as Charm and Glory bring the Lantern Moon experience to 13 cm needles, from compact 5-pair configurations to broader 8-pair options.

We would look at them first for sweaters, cardigans, shawls, blankets and flat knitting worked on circular needles.

For many people, the additional support area makes a 13 cm tip especially comfortable during long projects.

Lantern Moon also brings ebony to crochet

Lantern Moon’s philosophy does not end with knitting needles.

The brand also develops crochet hooks made from ebony wood with the same Liquid Silk finish used on its needles.

Radiance

Lantern Moon RADIANCE crochet set | Budetex

The Radiance set includes six single-ended crochet hooks in sizes:

4 · 4,5 · 5 · 5,5 · 6 · 8 mm

The crochet hooks are made from ebony and presented in a Khadi silk case.

It is a particularly interesting option for anyone who wants to experience crochet with a feel different from classic metal or aluminum hooks with ergonomic handles.

The wood adds a warm feel and a small degree of extra control over the yarn, while the polished finish is designed to maintain fluid movement.

Our recommendation for discovering Lantern Moon

If you have never used ebony

Before choosing a large set, we would try the Lantern Moon experience in a size you use regularly.

What matters is checking three things:

  • how the wood feels in your hand
  • how much control it gives over the yarn
  • how the tip length fits your knitting style

If that combination feels comfortable, then it makes a great deal of sense to consider a set and build a system around Lantern Moon.

Lantern Moon by project

For sweaters, cardigans and garments

We would look first at 13 cm tips with a cable length appropriate to the project size.

For hats, sleeves and smaller circumferences

Tips of 10 cm allow shorter configurations and are especially versatile.

For flat knitting with many stitches

Circular needles distribute the weight of the project along the cable instead of concentrating it entirely on long straight needles.

If yarn feels too slippery on metal

Ebony can be particularly interesting if we want to preserve good glide while gaining a little more natural control over the stitches.

If you work for many hours

The warm feel of the wood and the carefully polished finish are probably two of the Lantern Moon qualities most worth experiencing in person.

Lantern Moon ebony or metal needles

We do not believe one necessarily replaces the other.

They are different experiences.

METAL

We would look first at metal if you want:

  • an especially fast feel
  • maximum glide
  • high tip rigidity
  • a cool, completely smooth surface

LANTERN MOON

We would look first at ebony if you want:

  • a warmer feel
  • a little more control over the stitches
  • a quieter tool
  • a natural material
  • a particularly tactile experience

The choice depends far more on the person and the yarn than on any supposed hierarchy between materials.

About Lantern Moon

Lantern Moon develops a collection of knitting and crochet tools in which craftsmanship plays a central role.

The brand itself describes its world as a meeting point between tradition and contemporary design.

Its needles, crochet hooks, cases and accessories combine natural materials with artisan-made details, and many of its sets use cases made from Khadi silk.

Beyond aesthetics, what interests us most about Lantern Moon is the coherence of its proposition:

few materials, a clear identity and great attention to every point of contact between the tool and the person using it.
