German engineering applied to knitting

Smart systems, unconventional solutions and manufacturing deeply rooted in Germany.

addi | Knitting needles and knitting machines made in Germany | Budetex

Some brands build their identity around a material, an aesthetic or a product line.

At addi, much of the identity is built around another idea: solving specific knitting problems through product engineering.

An interchangeable system that needs neither a key nor a threaded connection. Flexible needles for small circumferences. Different surfaces and geometries. Manual machines capable of producing circular or flat fabric simply by turning a crank.

Behind all of this is one characteristic worth highlighting: addi is a German brand and manufactures the vast majority of its catalog in Altena, Germany.

Made in Germany is more than an indication of origin.

At addi, it translates into mechanisms, joins, surfaces and technical solutions developed to make a tangible difference in the knitting experience.

What makes addi different?

With many brands, the main difference between two needles is the material.

With addi, the entire logic of the tool often changes as well.

MECHANISMS

addiClick replaces the classic threaded connection with a mechanical insert, twist and click system.

GEOMETRIES

The brand develops different tip shapes, surfaces and formats to change grip, precision and stitch behavior.

SMALL CIRCUMFERENCES

addiCraSyTrio offers a three-flexible-needle alternative to a traditional set of double-pointed needles.

MANUAL MECHANIZATION

The addiExpress family takes knitting into a different logic: insert the yarn, turn the crank and create circular or flat fabric.

Our addi selection for Argentina

At Budetex, we aim to build a carefully curated selection from each brand and maintain continuity over time, with regular restocking for both retail and wholesale whenever market conditions allow.

In the case of addi, our strategy is deliberately more focused. It is a German-made brand with technically very interesting products that, because of its cost structure and final price in Argentina, sits in a particularly high segment.

That is why we prefer to focus on the lines where addi offers something genuinely different: the addiClick system, its interchangeable sets and cables, the addiCraSyTrio family, addiSwing Maxi ergonomic crochet hooks and addiExpress knitting machines.

Is there an addi product we do not currently carry that you would like to find in Argentina? Contact us. We take these requests into account when planning future imports.

For wholesale sales to specialty retailers, we can also evaluate selected references from the addi catalog that are not part of our regular selection.

addiClick: the heart of the interchangeable system

If we had to choose one family that especially well represents the way addi approaches product design, we would start with addiClick.

It is the brand’s interchangeable circular-needle system, but with one fundamental difference from many traditional systems: it does not use a threaded connection and requires no tightening key.

The connection is made by inserting the tip into the cable, pressing, twisting and allowing the mechanism to return to its locked position with the characteristic click.

addiClick system | Interchangeable tips and cables | Budetex

1. INSERT

The tip enters the cable’s metal connector.

2. PRESS

Apply light pressure to move the join into the locking position.

3. TWIST

The tip rotates inside the mechanism.

4. CLICK

As it returns to position, the connection locks securely.

No key. No tightening pin. No thread.

The identity of addiClick lies precisely in solving the connection through an insert, twist and lock mechanism.

One system, many configurations

addiClick interchangeable circular needles | Budetex

One of the strengths of the addiClick ecosystem is that the family’s different tips, cables and accessories share the same connection principle.

addi states that the system allows more than 500 combinations across tips, materials, lengths and accessories.

The international catalog includes, among others, tips in:

  • Basic
  • Lace
  • Novel
  • Unicorn
  • Bamboo
  • Olive Wood
  • addiClick crochet tips

There are also Long and Short, allowing the final circular-needle length to be adapted to different circumferences.

At Budetex, we do not necessarily carry all these variants permanently. What matters is understanding that they are part of one compatible ecosystem.

addiClick cables

In an interchangeable system, the cable is not a secondary accessory. It is a central part of the tool.

addi offers different cable families and lengths within its Click system. Depending on the international collection, these include Gold, Lace, SOS y Unicorn.

All share the addiClick connection logic and allow different final lengths to be created depending on the tips used.

Important: the stated measurement refers to the final length of the circular needle.

With addiClick, as with a fixed circular, the nominal length includes the cable plus both tips. That is why a cable identified for a 60 cm circular is physically shorter than 60 cm.

Long tips are normally combined with longer final lengths; for smaller circumferences, Short tips and specific cables are available.

addiClick sets

Sets are probably the most logical way to enter the addiClick system when we know we will use different sizes and lengths.

Instead of buying a complete circular needle for every combination, a set brings together several pairs of tips + different cables + accessories within the same ecosystem.

addiClick sets | Interchangeable circular needles | Budetex

The international range is broad and includes Basic, Lace, Novel, Unicorn, Bamboo, Olive Wood and various special configurations.

At Budetex, we prefer to focus on a more selective range, prioritizing the sets we consider most representative or useful for the Argentine market.

addiCraSyTrio: another way to knit small circumferences

The addiCraSyTrio were developed to solve one of the classic challenges of small-circumference knitting: working with several double-pointed needles at once.

Instead of a traditional set, CraSyTrio uses three needles with a flexible center section.

addiCraSyTrio | Flexible needles for socks and small circumferences | Budetex

Stitches are distributed over two needles and worked with the third. This reduces the number of major transitions during each round and changes the feel considerably compared with a traditional DPN set.

SOCKS

Probably its best-known application and a direct alternative to traditional double-pointed needles.

SLEEVES

Longer versions can be comfortable for intermediate circumferences.

GLOVES

The flexible center helps work small diameters with less rigidity around the project.

HATS

Longer variants can also be used for larger circumferences and decreases.

The international family includes different variants and finishes. At Budetex, we prioritize configurations that make the most sense for socks and small circumferences.

addiExpress: when knitting changes scale

The addiExpress family moves completely away from the logic of a traditional needle.

They are manual knitting machines: yarn is inserted, a crank is turned and mechanical needles build the fabric.

They can work both in the round and flat, and are designed to create knitted surfaces quickly and repeatedly.

addiExpress Professional | addi circular knitting machine | Budetex

ADDIEXPRESS PROFESSIONAL

22 needles.

This is the most compact model in the family. It is designed for small tubes, accessories, socks, cuffs, narrow scarves and narrower panels.

As a reference, addi indicates approximately 10–15 cm in diameter in the round and 15–20 cm wide when worked flat.

addiExpress Kingsize | addi circular knitting machine | Budetex

ADDIEXPRESS KINGSIZE

46 needles.

It significantly increases the working diameter and width. It is designed for hats, cowls, garments, cushions, home accessories and larger panels.

It is the option we would look at when we need to produce a considerably larger surface than with the Professional.

addi also offers addiEi, a small 6-needle machine designed for knitted cords and very small-scale projects.

They do not replace hand knitting: they do something different.

addiExpress machines are especially interesting when we want speed, repetition, tube or panel production and a different way of creating knitted surfaces.

According to addi, Professional and Kingsize typically work with yarns suited to needles of approximately 4 to 8 mm. Yarn construction, elasticity and fiber have a major influence on the result, so we always recommend testing before starting a complete project.

addi crochet: ergonomics and specific solutions

addi’s crochet catalog is also broad, but within our selection there is one line we find especially interesting: addiSwing Maxi.

It is an ergonomic crochet hook developed around a curved handle designed to distribute support more effectively across the hand.

The main difference of the Maxi compared with the traditional addiSwing is its longer metal hook, which provides more working space and a different feel when making stitches that require more material on the hook.

addiSwing Maxi | Ergonomic crochet hook made in Germany | Budetex

ERGONOMIC HANDLE

Its curved shape creates a broad support area and is designed to reduce strain on the hand, arm and shoulder during long crochet sessions.

LONGER HOOK

The Maxi version has a metal hook approximately 1 cm longer than the traditional addiSwing.

2 TO 6 MM

The range covers common crochet sizes, from relatively fine work to thicker projects.

MADE IN GERMANY

Like addi’s main lines, addiSwing Maxi is manufactured in Germany.

Who would we consider addiSwing Maxi for first?

For anyone who prioritizes handle ergonomics and prefers a hook with more usable hook length than a conventional crochet tool.

CONTACT BUDETEX ABOUT ADDI CROCHET

Other addi crochet hooks

addi’s crochet family is considerably broader. In addition to addiSwing Maxi, the brand develops other tools for different grip styles, yarn weights and techniques.

  • addiSwing: the original ergonomic version, with a curved handle and an overall length of approximately 16 cm.
  • addiSwing Mini: an especially fine version for thread crochet and small-diameter work.
  • addiColour: a classic crochet hook with a colored handle and a more conventional construction.
  • addiDuett: a dual-function tool combining a crochet hook and a point at the opposite end.
  • addi Tunisian crochet: different solutions for Tunisian crochet, including options connected to the addiClick system.
  • addiClick Crochet: crochet tips that can be combined with addiClick ecosystem cables for certain techniques and constructions.

These lines are part of the brand’s international universe, but at Budetex we do not aim to develop the entire category to the same depth. Within crochet, our focus is mainly on tools where addi offers a particularly distinctive ergonomic or construction solution.

The addi catalog is much broader

addi manufactures many more tools than those explored in depth on this page.

Its international catalog includes, among others:

FIXED CIRCULARS

Different tips, surfaces, materials and lengths for circular or flat knitting.

DOUBLE-POINTED NEEDLES

Traditional sets and specific variants for socks and small circumferences.

OTHER TOOLS

Accessories, special solutions and other variants that complete the brand’s international catalog.

NATURAL MATERIALS

Bamboo, olive wood and other variants within the addiNature families.

There are also families such as addiNovel, addiUnicorn, addiNature, addiSockenwunder and numerous accessories.

They are an important part of the addi universe, but in Argentina our priority will remain focused mainly on the lines explained in greater depth above.

About addi

Logo addi | Made in Germany

addi belongs to Gustav Selter GmbH & Co. KG, a company based in Altena, Germany.

The brand has produced knitting needles and crochet hooks in Germany since 1829 and maintains the concept Made in Germany as one of the central pillars of its identity. The company itself reports that approximately 93% of its catalog is currently manufactured in Germany.

The catalog combines traditional tools with highly specific products: circular needles, interchangeables, DPNs, crochet hooks, flexible systems and manual knitting machines.

For us, addi becomes most interesting when the brand stops thinking only about “a needle” and starts thinking in terms of a system, a mechanism or a solution.

Frequently asked questions about addi

Where is addi made?

addi is a German brand headquartered and manufactured in Altena. The company states that approximately 93% of its catalog is currently made in Germany.

What is addiClick?

It is addi’s interchangeable system. It combines tips and cables through a mechanical connection that locks by inserting, twisting and clicking.

Does addiClick use a threaded connection?

No. That is one of its main differences. The connection is not threaded and does not require a tightening key.

Are addiClick tips and cables compatible with one another?

Within the addiClick ecosystem, the brand states that different tips, cables and accessories can be combined with one another, allowing a large number of configurations.

What does a 60, 80 or 100 cm addiClick cable measurement mean?

The stated measurement corresponds to the final circular-needle length once the tips are attached, not the physical length of the cable alone.

What is the difference between addiClick Long and Short?

Long tips are longer and intended mainly for longer circular needles. Short tips allow smaller final circumferences and are useful for smaller projects.

What are addiCraSyTrio?

They are flexible needles for small circumferences. Three needles are used: stitches are distributed across two and the third is used to knit.

Are CraSyTrio only for socks?

No. They can also be used for gloves, sleeves, hats and other small- or intermediate-diameter projects, depending on the version length.

What is the difference between addiSwing and addiSwing Maxi?

Both use addi’s characteristic curved ergonomic handle. The addiSwing Maxi has a metal hook approximately 1 cm longer and reaches an overall length of 17 cm, compared with 16 cm for the traditional addiSwing.

What is addiSwing Mini?

It is the finest variant in the addiSwing family, designed especially for thread crochet and delicate work. It is made in sizes approximately from 0.50 to 1.75 mm.

What is the difference between addiExpress Professional and Kingsize?

The Professional has 22 needles and is designed for smaller diameters and panels. The Kingsize has 46 needles and can work considerably larger surfaces.

Do addiExpress machines knit only in the round?

No. Both Professional and Kingsize can work in the round and also produce flat fabric.

Which yarns can I use in an addiExpress?

As a general guide, addi recommends yarns suited to needles of approximately 4 to 8 mm. However, fiber, construction and elasticity significantly affect the result, so testing is always advisable.

Does Budetex carry the entire addi catalog?

No. Our selection is deliberately focused on the lines we consider most distinctive for the Argentine market: addiClick, interchangeable cables and sets, addiCraSyTrio, addiSwing Maxi and addiExpress.

Discover addi with Budetex

addi has an enormous catalog, but we do not believe every line needs to occupy the same place.

We are especially interested in the tools where the brand’s way of thinking about product becomes particularly clear: different connections, unconventional formats, ergonomics and technical solutions developed to address specific situations.

In Argentina, we will continue with a selective strategy: less breadth than with some other brands, but greater focus on the products where addi offers something genuinely different.
