Precision, surgical-grade stainless steel and one of the most recognizable cable systems in circular knitting

Circular needles developed around three essential elements: precise tips, carefully engineered joins and cables designed to interfere as little as possible with the knitting process.

ChiaoGoo in Argentina | Budetex

ChiaoGoo specializes in tools for knitting and crochet and is particularly well known for its circular needle systems.

Its products are designed and distributed from Troy, Michigan, USA, while manufacturing takes place in Hangzhou, China, within a family business with a long history of knitting-needle production.

Within its catalog, the best-known family is TWIST: surgical-grade stainless-steel needles paired with the brand’s distinctive red nylon-coated multi-strand steel cables.

The ChiaoGoo system is especially defined by:

  • fine, precise tips
  • carefully machined joins
  • flexible memory-free cables
  • an interchangeable system organized by connection size

What makes ChiaoGoo different?

With a circular needle, the tip material is only part of the experience.

The final experience depends on the combination of tip, join and cable.

PRECISE TIPS: TWIST Lace tips have a refined profile designed to enter stitches easily and work with precision.

SURGICAL-GRADE STAINLESS STEEL: TWIST needles are made from surgical-grade stainless steel with a smooth, durable metal surface.

MULTI-STRAND CABLE: the classic TWIST Red cable uses a multi-strand steel core coated in nylon.

MEMORY-FREE: ChiaoGoo describes TWIST cables as memory-free: they come out of the package nearly straight and tend to remain relaxed while knitting.

MODULAR SYSTEM: tips, cables and accessories are organized around three connection sizes — MINI, SMALL and LARGE — allowing different configurations to be built.

The choice is still personal. A very smooth, precise metal tip may feel ideal to some knitters and too fast to others.

Our ChiaoGoo selection for Argentina

At Budetex, we aim to build a broad selection from each brand and maintain continuity over time, with regular restocking for both retail and wholesale.

Our selection of ChiaoGoo in Argentina focuses especially on its circular-needle ecosystem: TWIST and SPIN tips, RED Lace fixed circulars, interchangeable cables, Shorties sets and accessories.

With ChiaoGoo, one point is especially important: the cable is not a secondary accessory but a central part of the system. That is why we aim to keep the different connection sizes and lengths needed to use interchangeable tips correctly.

Is there a ChiaoGoo product we do not currently carry that you would like to find in Argentina? Contact us. We take these requests into account when planning future imports.

For wholesale sales to specialty retailers, we can also evaluate products from the ChiaoGoo catalog that are not part of our regular selection.

Explore ChiaoGoo interchangeable needle lines

Within ChiaoGoo’s interchangeable system, three lines are especially important: TWIST, QUADS y SPIN.

The main differences are in material, geometry and knitting feel. TWIST delivers ChiaoGoo’s classic metal experience, QUADS introduces a square geometry, and SPIN uses Moso bamboo.

ChiaoGoo TWIST interchangeable circular needles | Budetex

TWIST

Stainless steel, round profile and Lace tip.

TWIST is ChiaoGoo’s most representative interchangeable system.

The needles are machined from surgical-grade stainless steel, with a smooth surface and a fine, progressive Lace tip that makes precision work easier.

They are primarily offered in tip lengths of 5, 8, 10 and 13 cm, with different connection sizes depending on needle diameter.

Available from 1.50 mm and up

Ideal if: you prefer metal needles, smooth glide and a well-defined tip.

ChiaoGoo QUADS interchangeable circular needles | Budetex

QUADS

Stainless steel with a square profile.

QUADS is one of the more recent additions to the ChiaoGoo interchangeable system.

Unlike a conventional round needle, it has four flat sides with rounded corners, creating a different feel and support between the fingers.

ChiaoGoo specifically calibrated these needles to produce gauge equivalent to its round needles of the same size, so there is no need to size up simply because the needle is square.

They are available in tip lengths of 10 and 13 cm and are compatible with ChiaoGoo interchangeable cables using SMALL [S] and LARGE [L].

Ideal if: you like the glide of steel but want to try a different grip geometry.

ChiaoGoo SPIN interchangeable circular needles | Budetex

SPIN

Moso bamboo and a warmer knitting feel.

SPIN feels very different from TWIST and QUADS because it replaces steel with Moso bamboo.

The surface provides more grip on the yarn than a highly polished metal needle, which can be useful when greater stitch control is desired.

SPIN tips are offered in lengths of 10 and 13 cm.

SPIN and TWIST also share much of the same cable and accessory ecosystem as long as the connection size matches.

Ideal if: you prefer bamboo, a warmer surface and a greater sense of control over the yarn.

ChiaoGoo TWIST vs. QUADS vs. SPIN

We do not consider any of these needles universally better than the others. The main difference lies in how we want the tool to feel in the hand and how we want the stitches to move along the needle.

Feature TWIST QUADS SPIN
Material Stainless steel Stainless steel Moso bamboo
Profile Round Square with rounded corners Round
Feel Smooth and fast Smooth, with more defined support Warm, with more grip
Tip lengths 5, 8, 10 and 13 cm 10 and 13 cm 10 and 13 cm
Recommended if... You want the classic ChiaoGoo metal experience You want steel with a different geometry You prefer bamboo and greater stitch control

Much more than interchangeable needles

Although TWIST, QUADS and SPIN represent much of the interchangeable system’s identity, ChiaoGoo develops a much broader range of tools.

Within its catalog, these are some of the products Budetex currently brings to Argentina:

RED Lace fixed stainless-steel circular needles

Stainless steel + cable rojo sin memoria.

RED Lace fixed circular needles bring much of the TWIST experience to a needle where tips and cable remain permanently joined.

Utilizan puntas de surgical-grade stainless steel y el característico cable de acero multifilamento recubierto de nylon rojo.

Available in a length of 100 cm.

Combo TWIST Shorties

For construir circulares extremadamente cortas.

Shorties combines tips of approximately 5 and 8 cm with especially short cables.

This makes it possible to build circular needles for sleeves, socks, cuffs and other small circumferences.

The family is divided into different configurations identified by color and connection size.

This table reflects Budetex’s editorial recommendation. The final choice depends on the project, yarn, gauge and each knitter’s technique.

MINI, SMALL and LARGE: understanding ChiaoGoo connection sizes

This is one of the most important concepts for understanding the ChiaoGoo interchangeable system.

ChiaoGoo MINI, SMALL and LARGE cables | Budetex

Tips and cables do not use one universal thread size. ChiaoGoo divides connections into three main sizes:

MINI [M]

For las medidas más finas.

TWIST uses the MINI connection on its smallest diameters, approximately from 1.50 to 2.50 mm.

It is also an important connection size within some Shorties configurations.

SMALL [S]

The mid-size connection.

It is used for many common knitting sizes, approximately from 2.75 to 5 mm on TWIST and SPIN tips.

QUADS also uses SMALL connections in the corresponding sizes.

LARGE [L]

For los diámetros mayores.

It is used for the larger sizes in the interchangeable system.

TWIST, SPIN and QUADS use LARGE connections when required by the tip diameter.

Key rule: before choosing a cable, always check the tip connection: MINI [M], SMALL [S] or LARGE [L].

ChiaoGoo also makes adapters that make certain combinations between different connection sizes possible.

ChiaoGoo cables

For nosotros, el cable es una de las partes centrales de la experiencia ChiaoGoo.

The brand develops different cable constructions to create different feels and suit each system.

TWIST Red Cable

Multi-strand steel coated in red nylon.

It is probably ChiaoGoo’s most recognizable component.

The internal steel structure adds stability, while the nylon coating allows yarn to move smoothly across the surface.

ChiaoGoo describes them as memory-free: they come out of the package nearly straight and tend to remain relaxed during use.

SWIV360

Multi-strand cable with a swiveling connection.

It allows the tip to rotate freely relative to the cable, reducing transferred twist while knitting.

It is currently used in different configurations and sets from the brand.

SPIN Nylon Cable

Clear, flexible nylon.

This is the cable traditionally associated with SPIN bamboo tips.

It allows the tips to rotate freely and provides a different feel from multi-strand steel cables.

ChiaoGoo adapters and connectors

The ecosystem includes small components that expand the possibilities of interchangeable needles.

ChiaoGoo cable adapters | Budetex

Connection adapters

They allow certain tips to be used with cables of a different connection size. For example, ChiaoGoo offers adapters from LARGE tips to SMALL cables and from SMALL tips to MINI cables.

Cable connectors

They allow two cables to be joined to create a longer length.

New Swivel Adapters

ChiaoGoo incorporó recientemente adapters giratorios para conexiones SMALL and LARGE.

These accessories can convert certain fixed-connection TWIST or X-Flex cables into a configuration where the tip can rotate relative to the cable.

ChiaoGoo sets

A set starts to make sense once we know we want to build our needle collection around the ChiaoGoo system.

The brand offers very different configurations, from traditional TWIST and SPIN sets to systems specialized for small circumferences.

TWIST 10 CM

Short tips for a wider range of configurations.

10 cm tip sets can create shorter circular needles than traditional 13 cm tips.

They are especially useful when a project combines larger garment sections with relatively small circumferences.

Available in Small and Complete set configurations

CONTACT BUDETEX ABOUT CHIAOGOO

TWIST 13 CM

The classic configuration for general knitting.

13 cm tips provide more support in the hand and work especially well with medium and long circular needles.

We would consider them first for sweaters, cardigans, shawls and medium-to-large projects.

Available in Small and Complete set configurations

TWIST SHORTIES

Specialized for small circumferences.

Shorties combina puntas de 5 and 8 cm con cables extremadamente cortos.

The family includes different configurations for different size ranges, visually identified by their cases and cables.

Available in three size ranges:  2 to 3.25 mm (M), de 3.5 to 5 mm (S) y 5.5 to 8 mm (L)

Our recommendation for discovering ChiaoGoo

If you want to try just one: a RED Lace fixed circular

If you have never used ChiaoGoo, we would start with a RED Lace fixed circular in a size and length you use regularly.

It is a simple way to experience two of the brand’s most distinctive elements at once:

  • the metal Lace tip
  • the red multi-strand cable

If that combination works well with your knitting style, then considering a TWIST interchangeable system makes much more sense.

ChiaoGoo by project

For sweaters, cardigans y prendas

We would look first at TWIST or QUADS with 10 or 13 cm tips and a cable appropriate to the project size.

For Magic Loop

The TWIST Red cable is especially well suited to this technique because of its flexibility and low memory.

For socks and small diameters, we recommend 100 cm RED Lace fixed circular needles.

For medias sin Magic Loop

TWIST Shorties can create very short circular needles for working small circumferences without a long cable.

For encaje, disminuciones y puntos complejos

TWIST Lace tips have a fine geometry that makes it easier to enter stitches precisely.

If you want to try a square needle

QUADS retains ChiaoGoo’s metal surface while completely changing the needle’s body geometry.

For yarns that feel too slippery

If a metal surface feels too fast for your knitting style, SPIN Bamboo is an alternative worth considering.

For crochet tunecino

The T-SPIN system connects bamboo crochet hooks to interchangeable cables, allowing tool length to be adapted to the project.

ChiaoGoo vs. KnitPro

They represent two different approaches to building an interchangeable needle system.

ChiaoGoo builds much of its identity around tip precision, connection quality and cable performance.

With TWIST, QUADS and SPIN, it also allows a choice between round steel, square steel and bamboo.

KnitPro, offers a considerably wider variety of materials and collections within one ecosystem, including aluminum, different woods, steel, brass, carbon fiber, bamboo and acrylic.

We would look first at ChiaoGoo if the priority is especially the tip-and-cable combination.

We would look first at KnitPro if we want to explore a very wide variety of needle materials and styles.

We do not believe one brand necessarily replaces the other.

Frequently asked questions about ChiaoGoo

Which ChiaoGoo needle do we recommend for beginners to the brand?

If you have never used the brand, we would start with a RED Lace fixed circular in a size and length you use regularly.

What is the difference between TWIST, QUADS and SPIN?

TWIST uses stainless steel with a round profile. QUADS uses stainless steel with a square cross-section and rounded corners. SPIN uses Moso bamboo.

Do I need to use a different size with QUADS?

No. ChiaoGoo states that QUADS was specifically calibrated to produce gauge equivalent to a round needle of the same size.

Does QUADS use special cables?

No. QUADS tips are compatible with ChiaoGoo interchangeable cables using SMALL [S] and LARGE [L] connections, depending on the tip size.

Do TWIST cables work with SPIN tips?

Yes, as long as the tip and cable use the same connection size.

What do M, S and L mean?

They are the MINI, SMALL and LARGE connection sizes. They determine which tips, cables and accessories connect directly to one another.

Do ChiaoGoo Red cables have memory?

ChiaoGoo describes them as memory-free, meaning they are designed to come out of the package nearly straight and remain relaxed while knitting.

This does not mean they cannot be permanently marked: a cable may retain a kink if pinched or damaged.

What is the difference between TWIST Red and SWIV360?

TWIST Red uses a fixed connection. SWIV360 allows the tip to rotate relative to the cable.

Which ChiaoGoo needles do we recommend for socks?

For Magic Loop miraríamos TWIST MINI o una RED Lace fixed circular con cable largo. For una circular extremadamente corta, miraríamos TWIST Shorties.

Does ChiaoGoo work for Tunisian crochet?

Yes. T-SPIN is ChiaoGoo’s interchangeable Tunisian crochet system and uses bamboo hooks that connect to cables.

Should I try one needle before choosing a set?

If you have never used ChiaoGoo, we recommend first trying a fixed circular or an individual configuration.

If you already know the tip and cable work well with your knitting style, then a set starts to make much more sense.
